How we score treks
Each trek gets a total score from 0 to 100, the sum of four components.
| Scenery | Up to 35 points. Beauty, variety and altitude. Range in the data: 10 to 34. |
|---|---|
| Fame | Up to 25 points. How well known the route is worldwide. Range in the data: 3 to 25. |
| Uniqueness | Up to 20 points. How different the experience is from other routes. Range in the data: 7 to 19. |
| Logistics | Up to 20 points. Ease of access, infrastructure, huts, permits. Range in the data: 2 to 19. |
How to use the score
The score is one systematic estimate, not a final opinion. A route with a low logistics score can be excellent for someone willing to put in the effort. The score does not measure safety.
Security flags and closures
Treks in areas with a security warning are clearly marked (34 of 492). Treks that are closed or suspended are marked separately, and their score reflects the current situation. Always check your own government's travel advice.
Sources and confidence
Every trek links to its sources (park, tourism and encyclopedia sites). The "confidence" field (high, medium, low) shows how well the information is backed.
Duplicates
498 raw records were merged into 492 treks: six duplicates (Lycian Way, Carian Trail, Phrygian Way, Mount Ararat trek, Alpe-Adria Trail, Saint Paul Trail) were combined, keeping the higher-scored, more complete record and merging the sources.
